About
Us.....

Young Potential was founded in 2000 by a
small passionate team of youth workers with years of experience of
working with young people in difficult situations and a burning
ambition to spend our time making sure that young people
who grow up facing poverty, poor living conditions, neglect, abuse and
insecurity can still get the best of chances to get an education and a
job. We do this so that they can have a better future and not rely on
crime and drugs in order to survive as adults.
We work directly with young people,
but we also work with adults who they come into contact with, including
their families, professional workers and other people who live in their
local communities, because these are the people who can make or break
the life chances of these vulnerable young people.
We centre our work around developing emotional resilience,
helping people to understand and then cope
better with the way that they feel about the situations that they find
themselves in. Then we work on developing empathy, understanding
and a sense of responsibility so people start to see that what they do
affects others, and in turn, affects the way others see them.
We find that once the young
people start to feel better about themselves, they start to treat other
people better, then start to care about the people and places around
them, and before long they are wanting to get back to school, 'sort
themselves out' and look forward to the sort of future that everyone
would wish for our children.
A good number of the young people that
we work with go on to become volunteers in their own communities, giving
up a considerable amount of their own free time to help make life better
for others.
We are proud to be an organisation that believes in young
people and in their future
We have been a
Registered Charity since 2001, our number is 1087787
Our job is ......
To improve the
opportunities of all young people, but in particular those who are
involved with crime, have problems relating to drug, solvent or alcohol
abuse or related issues or who are excluded from school or other
circumstances.
We provide a range of
activities and services that provide intensive, realistic and consistent
guidance and support to young people aged 13 and over, whose lives are
seriously affected by crime, violence, poverty or neglect.
We specialise in a
unique set of intensive behavioural management interventions which we
deliver in both school and community settings, working directly with young people, their families, carers and professional
workers.
